World War 1 – ‘The war to end wars’

The War to end Wars, or so it was thought. I am re-reading Barbara Tuchman’s great book about the causes of World War One – The Guns of August. If you have not read this marvellous book, do so.

This led me on to listening to some music from that time and looking at various photos. I came across the item below on You Tube, which is a collection of photographs accompanying a song by a great English folk group Coope, Boyes & Simpson.

It reminded me also of my grandfather who served in the trenches in that horrendous conflict.
