Media abused the party’s trust

Once again we see a branch of the media abusing the trust that has been extended to it, yet the media continues to demand freedom to write or broadcast whatever its members want.

The session of the recent Labour Party congress that was taped and played by TV One was a glaring example of that abuse of trust. It was a closed session and the media is supposed to declare its presence or at least refrain from reporting anything.

To tape and broadcast the particular “damned good idea” was not only inexcusable, it also served to advertise beyond our wildest dreams that this Government has done some wonderful things and that the best way to find out about them is to look out for departmental advertising.

Departments must tell the truth, which is more than we can expect from our very biased media. I say well done to party president Mike Williams - he mustn’t dare resign.

A R SABINE

I see that in A. R. Sabine’s mind:-

  1. Lying is acceptable when it protects the party.
  2. That by inference the media should be controlled and report only what the party wishes them to hear, read or say.
  3. That Mike Williams did the right thing by lying
  4. Departmental advertising advertises for the achievements of the government and that by extension such advertising is the truth
  5. The leak was from the media, yet to date there is no clear indication of who made the leak
  6. That exposure of lies, when they are Labour lies is wrong

Now what planet is this writer from?
