Helen Clark gives fortune to cancer programme!
The NZ Herald had a front page story this morning in the print edition on the planned programme to fund vaccination against cervical cancer.
Adam thinks this is a good idea and applauds the government for this initiative.
He is upset though with the article headline, viz:
Clark putting $150m into cancer vaccine
Now we all know the PM is not poor, but Adam was unaware that she had such a large personal fortune which enabled her to make this splendidly philanthropic gesture.
Of course on reading Paula Oliver’s article all was made clear. Ms Clark was not giving any of her money, she was using taxpayer’s money.
Adam takes exception to the headline, which was also accompanied by a photo of Ms Clark. He thinks that the headline was grossly misleading and inclined to persuade people into a particular view of Ms Clark.
Incidentally, Adam was under the impression that the Boy Wonder, David Cunliffe was Minister of Health, or is that only when there is dirty work to be done. As usual the PM will take all the publicity and credit.
Now as this is an election year we can no doubt expect an announcement soon on funding Herceptin!
Tongue firmly in cheek, Adam wants to know whether the article was an authorised advert for the Labour Party and will the Electoral Commission be considering prosecution under the EFA.
