High food prices may aid Doha Round Conclusion
The FT has an intriguing article that suggests high food prices may make it easier to conclude the Doha Round, because it makes it easier for the US to make concessions and thus enable India to move also.
However, the US Trade Representative Susan Schwab is intent on pointing the finger at India apparently.
The FT suggests that McCain argue forcefully for progress and :-
Barack Obama – who must surely see that “change” implies that the US should begin to take its professed multilateralism seriously
and should respond positively.
The point re Obama is a good one. He needs to move beyond rhetoric and if he is to restore US standing in the world, should he become President, that actions will speak much more loudly than words.
