Thoughts from the Blogosphere-on Winston Peters

There have been many blog posts on Winston Peters this week. Some examples follow. Overall during the week Adam did no feel he could add a great deal to the debate, other than to reinforce what was said by others, so held fire.

David Farrar has posted a number of times on the Winston Peters saga this week. Adam found this analysis on July 16, Strange Tactics from Peters interesting. Like a number of other bloggers Mr Farrar commented on the coverage in The Press editorial on Peters. Since the admission by Peters of the Glenn donation, David Farrar has a comment on Audrey Young’s article in the Herald today and additional comments on what Issues MPS should be looking at re Peters, and What you Have to believe in to believe Peters did not know.

Adam found the last 2 posts mentioned above particularly useful. Interestingly, No Right Turn seems to have reached a not dis-similar conclusion in a post on whether Peters has breached Parliamentary privilege, though he does not seem to think Peters will be held to effective account. Adam is afraid that No Right Turn’s conclusion may well be right.

The Hive has a number of posts on the issue and Adam especially enjoyed this one, purporting to be advice from the US Embassy in Wellington to Condilezza Rice. In it Queen Bee speculates over Winston’s future. Adam thinks that MMP politics may mean Clark does nothing. He enjoyed also this one showing Peters and Rice shaking hands on a previous occasion. Queen Bee noted the Trans Tasman newsletter’s thoughts in this regard also.

What Adam finds intriguing is the numbers of people who still appear to think that Winston has done nothing wrong and that by bringing these matters to light, the NZ Herald has done something wrong.

Further, it will be interesting to see just what traction this issues gets next week.

Of course whether we ever get to the bottom of any issues concerning Peters remains to be seen. Adam will not hold his breath.

UPDATE: When Adam wrote this post he had not read the comprehensive take by Jafapete on Winston and Wiggle room. Well worth a look.
