Clark tells Shane Jones to fix the showers. Adam suggests the damage has been done. Showers, light bulbs, smacking, school lunch boxes these are all lodged in the electorates mind as examples of nanny statism. Indeed, for many Labour now equals in their mind’s eye a dictatorial Nanny. That is not a good image to have.
Telling Jones to flip-flop may have seemed OK, but last week he was saying this was really a good idea, but as usual with this sort of idea, especially when the Greens are involved the whole thing became a veritable flood of a PR disaster for the regime.
