From a Parallel Universe #13
Catching up with some newspaper reading Adam came across this rather bizarre letter to the NZ Herald printed on Boxing Day.
Now given that for the last 9 nine years we have had a Labour Government, Adam is unclear whether this letter is an indictment of Labour, because clearly despite the huge spend on Social Welfare the economic lot of many has not improved. This despite the ‘magnificent economic track record’ of Michael Cullen, (pause, vomit and recover). Or is it intended as an attack on National who have only just come into power. The reference to 1991 tends Adam as a conclusion that this is an attack on National.
Adam suggests that a major contributory factor to the low wage economy is poor productivity, poor work-force skills rather than a desire by employers to force wages down. Again this letter writer seems to belong to the all employers are bastards school of thought. Either that or she lives in a parallel universe.
The idea that we have planned poverty instituted by Government fiat, coupled with Government led racism is manifestly absurd.
We have too many on benefits and we need to grow the economy, with a focus on jobs of value and on productivity so as to grow personal incomes and enable people to move into worthwhile paid employment.

Thank you for saying it.
Low wage economies are usually the product of an under-productive, poorly educated workforce.
