I was winstoned

Adam spent Christmas with some close friends and their family. We have for many years celebrated the festive season with these friends.

This year as a Christmas present one of my friend’s adult children gave Adam - The Beaut Little book of New Zealand Slang – authors Harry Orsman and Des Hurley – published by Penguin.

This was and is a great present. One of the best presents Adam has had.

Reading this slim, but comprehensive tome Adam fell to thinking. Not always a good idea.

He thought about some words that did not make it into this erudite volume.Those below are but two, others will follow. Readers may have their own thoughts.

Words such as:-

Mallard – noun: an obnoxious, loud-mouthed bully, with pronounced vulgarian tendencies, frequently abusive of Americans

Winston – verb:to project an image that is totally at variance with the facts, usually in direct opposition to same, such image is believed by many, especially pensioners residing in Tauranga

The words and their usage can best be illustrated by their common usage:-

Although Trevor was palpably a mallard, I was winstoned.
