Classic Songs #20 – American Pie

Have always loved this song. One Christmas and New Year , in the late 1980s, we were in Nantucket, staying at the Jared Coffin Houses. Great place to stay, great chowder, accommodation and good fun.
On New Year we were in a group bringing in the New Year in the Jared Coffin House cellar bar/bistro. We persuaded the musicians to play this and everyone joined in.
Shame Don McLean’s other work never really achieved the same resonance. Though Vincent was a good song and so were some others.
American Pie has some great lines and phrases that have passed into more general parlance.
