Some other perspectives on ACC

March 15, 2009

More comment on ACC today. Rod Oram in the SST. A typical Bomber rant at Tumeke!, quoting Oram extensively. Ralston in the HoS and McCarten also at the HoS with differing viewpoints. Tane at The Standard a couple of days ago drew attention to a fact sheet released by the CTU. Whatever your views the CTU piece is worth taking a look at. There was a useful guest post at The Standard on ACC as well the other day.

For amusement Adam admits he enjoyed this post by Irish Bill. Inventory2 also commented on ACC today

The majority of the posts do not agree with the line being peddled by Nick Smith, nor do a number of the recent press columns.

Nick Smith is making a lot of noise, but he is being long on rhetoric and short on facts in a number of areas. He is not making his case for change well. Forget blog comments, columnists like Brian Fallow and Rod Oram are pointing out issues with the figures spouted by Smith. As yet they are not especially clear on how ACC’s problems are to be fixed, but Smith needs to marshall his arguments more clearly. On the other hand Smith is tapping into a vein of public dissatisfaction with ACC .

    I think you are right.

Smith is digging himself a hole

I think Smith is falling into the trap that a lot of previous Ministers have. There are some long-standing senior staffers at ACC who have made a career out of foot-tripping Ministers behind the scenes whilst smiling at them in public. They do it in such a way that they don’t get any dirt on themselves.
The best way for Smith to advance any change at ACC would be to get an independent advisor as his ACC PS, because otherwise the lunatics are going to continue their control of that asylum…
