Why is Paddy’s Day special to Adam?
Apart from a close family connection to Ireland, Paddy’s Day is very special to Adam. The reason is that his paternal grandad’s sister was born on 17 March 1879. She died 102 years later.
Aunt Lizzie was a favourite relative and lived with Adam’s family for a number of years. ‘On a temporary basis’ she used to say, after breaking a leg – running for a bus at age 90 or thereabouts. She was a great lady.
Contrary to what many would say today, about the attitudes of the English working class, she was a working class Tory all her life, hated Labour with a passion.
A great believer in education and striving to move forward. In the best sense.
On St Paddy’s Day, apart from remembering his Irish ancestry, Adam celebrates his much beloved Aunt Lizzie.
