Radio New Zealand – uniquely irritating again
March 30, 2009
Heard on Radio New Zealand – National this morning. Kathryn Ryan in a segment relating to a new book about Kiwi cuisine, which might be to some people an oxymoron, used the phrase quite unique. Further, Adam thinks he heard the interviewee similarly misuse the word.
Perhaps this usage is now an example of New Zild?

The linguists probably regard is as evolution of the New Zealand English usage of words.
Personally I find it irritating.
This growing propensity to qualify absolute adjectives is quite bothersome
