Quotation for Today, Saturday 11 April

April 11, 2009

This strategy of mostly persisting with the foreign and security policies of Mr Bush while insisting that those policies have been overthrown has not yet met organised resistance from US allies. The fact that Mr Obama is so much better liked buys him a great deal of goodwill, and the desire to suck up to him still predominates.

Clive Crook writing in the FT on how the rhetoric has changed but not the substance. How soon will it be before more people see through the act.

Its hard to avoid a conclusion that, like Labour here, the Americans had simply got sick of the Republicans. They controlled the House and Senate 1994-2008 and the White House for eight years.. thats a bloody long time!

In Obama they saw a man who had yet to be obviously corrupted by Washington and went for him.. despite his small and spotty record.
