The Internaut

April 20, 2009

Browsing the new Listener this morning Adam paused at a column titled the Internaut written by Deborah Hill-Cone. Now he does not normally read this column going straight for Jane Clifton’s piece and Slane’s cartoon. The cartoon is excellent this week by the way. Then Adam looks at forthcoming programmes, so he can set the DVD recorder.

However, Adam digresses. Just prior to acquiring Listener and a coffee, Adam had read a post by WhaleOil on said Deborah Hill-Cone’s column in Friday’s Business Herald.

Now Adam is not sure what the Internaut column is meant to be. It is one of few current Listener columns to be on line contemporaneously with the availability of the print edition. In print the column reads somewhat like an attempt at a blog. On line it reads as extracts from articles, but with no commentary or analysis, unless Adam has missed something.

If a blog why print it? If a column why run it?

The Listener seems very confused as regards the internet.
