Pubs I have known #13-Golden Eagle, Marylebone Lane W1

Golden Eagle - Marylebone Lane, London W1

Back in the late 1960s, early 1970s this was an excellent little pub in a street full of little cafes, old style shops selling various things including from memory an ironmongers. Adam was training as a CA with a small firm just up the road in Wimpole Street – so more than one lunchtime sandwich and a pint was taken there.

On a business trip to London in 2003 Adam went for a Saturday afternoon walk and stopped in for a beer and sandwich. It was good to see the place still going and that it had not been gentrified. This is a real pub, not an apology for one.

There used to be the most superb deli and sandwich shop nearby, but am not certain if that is still there.

A number of the London pub guides recommend it.

I do not know this pub.

But I am going to the UK for a month in May (Boys golf trip) and will definitely look it up.

I have some nice reservations at good London restaurants (eg the River Cafe, Quo Vadis and Oliviomare). Looking forward to it.
