Mihir Bose writes in The New Statesman on democracy in India and the attitude of the Raj to India and Hindus as compared to Pakistan and Muslims. Bose contrasts for example the postion the Raj took regarding Muslims as compared to views today.

Partition, the foreign secretary Ernest Bevin told the Labour party conference that year (1947), “would help to consolidate Britain in the Middle East”
However, in today’s world with the bizarre help of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Williams, who having previously in early 2008 set the context for the broader issue of religious and legal pluralism as a desirable development for the UK –
