Resistance, as the Daleks say, is futile
In the dead tree edition of the DomPost today Adam counted:-
Page A2 - notes resignation of a Maori adviser. Though Adam thinks the story was incomplete as on RNZ this morning the adviser was reported as having planned to resign for positive reasons prior to Rankin’s appointment, but was now resigning because of
Rankin. Surely a case of seeking to have your cake and eat it too. Others might term it speaking out of both sides of your mouth at the same time.
Page B4 – a predictable Tom Scott cartoon
Page B5 – Vernon Small on the way National is wasting political capital with this appointment.
Here Adam would tend to agree. He suspects that this appointment can be laid at Paula Bennett’s door. If that is the case somebody should be giving her better political advice. John Key’s s chief of staff should have headed this off and avoided this furore.H2 or Rahm Emanuel would have seen this danger.
Page B7 – Jane Clifton in her TV review lays into Rankin with abandon and to effect. In her comments Clifton echoes a recent post by BB at roarprawn. Clifton’s comments are not on line, but here are some choice extracts:-
There is more but get your own copy. Yet Adam cannot resist this last extract:-
Clifton leads into this snippet with :-
Rankin is a made for TV don’t
Love the imagery of the Daleks. Exterminate!!!
This appointment has been a gift to National’s enemies and tepid allies. This is poor political management. Why was Bennett not managed better.
This affair raises some questions about quality of political management and leadership within National.
