Michael Martin- Speaker of UK House of Commons ‘stands down’ as result of MPs expenses rorts. The final nail in the coffin may have been the disclosure that some of the Speaker’s officials responsible for approving payments connived in the claims for phantom mortgages.

This is unprecedented. Speculation now turns as to whether he will bring Broon down with him. Some see increasing pressure for a dissolution of Parliament and a General Election.

    Good point raised by the Independent about Labour succeeding in holding on..

    Giving oxygen to fringe parties may take Britain in directions that are unpredictable and ripple across the EU.
