Pubs I have known #14, The City Barge-Strand on the Green
Located on a gorgeous stretch of the north bank of the Thames, this Fuller’s pub is not as small as it first seems. Loftier punters may have to duck their heads as they enter from the riverside into a tiny, cave-like bar. Go up the stairs to the right however, and things are a much more
roomy affair, with large tables, wooden chairs, leather sofas and another bar. There is also a glass-roofed conservatory area, and tables out in the car park area at the back (complete with smoker-friendly heaters). The riverside terrace is packed out in summer. Nautical paraphernalia adorns the walls, including an old mooring charges sign. The bars offer three cask Fuller’s ales including Chiswick bitter. Good, honest pub grub is on offer as well as a decent wine list.

The review is from Time Out who rate this pub as one of the best riverside pubs in London. Many years ago when Adam was working on a major audit in the Hayes area he and his colleagues used to stop here in the evening for a beer or two on the way home. Good to see it is still seen as a good pub. We went there off and on for some 6 or 7 years. From memory it was not a Fullers pub back then, so if it is Fullers now that would be an improvement.

Sounds good. I am over there next week and playing a few rounds of golf in Surrey over the next few weeks. So I might try and seek it out.
An outstanding boozer from which to watch Premier League football on a wet Sunday, and while Chiswick Bitter isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (ale?) it certainly gets better after a few….
