Portillo on UK politics
Former Tory Cabinet Minister and one time leadership aspirant Michael Portillo writes a very interesting article in The Times. Portillo discusses the current political situation and concludes that the Conservatives are not a shoo in.
There are some interesting parallels, for a NZ reader, with the situation obtaining in NZ prior to the 2008 election.
The article is deserving of a read. It provides some food for thought. Although he does not develop the propositions very much, Portillo seems to be against MMP and to favour a scenario where the executive is outside Parliament.
At least in the UK people are now talking about substantive constitutional reform. It is time a proper debate on constitutional issues was commenced in NZ.
