Peter Ellis – time for action

June 6, 2009

Poneke had several posts on the Peter Ellis case.

This on the need for a Royal Commission is the most recent Adam could find. It is a clear summary of the issues.

Adam believes it is time Simon Power took action to correct the grave injustice that took place when Peter Ellis was convicted.

Adam is at a loss to explain why this matter has not been addressed before.

Adam, there is a powerful Wellington lobby acutely opposed to any review of the Ellis case. As David points out, Val Sim is a key part of that, but it is the almost unanimous view of the legal establishment in Wellington that it would open up the justice system to far too much criticism. However justified that criticism is (and I for one think it difficult to imagine a more morally corrupt and despicable piece of legal theatre than the Ellis case), this cabal don’t want that to happen. It is a strange mix of old style feminists holding staunch and old style jurists.

It is a disgrace, but I somehow doubt that Peter Ellis will ever get his vindication, as much as many of us hope he will. Actually I’m also keen to see those who perjured themselves and conspired to get him convicted get their comeuppance as well, but that ain’t going to happen.

“Adam is at a loss to explain why this matter has not been addressed before.”

    Start with:
Val Sim, now a Law Commissioner, and Crown Law counsel. ???
The Hon Margaret Wilson, then Associate Minister of Justice and Attorney-General. ???

Witchcraft, and the urgency of political expediency play their respective parts.

You are of course aware of this site http://www.peterellis.org.nz

John Key looks like having an acute perception of “morally right and wrong”
Perhaps there may be a review during his watch..
