The Light Dawns – Reality Bites #69
Adam does not think that the law, any law, is likely to stop any of the horrendous child abuse that we have seen reported in NZ in recent years.
Yet, he does not agree with the postion taken by those who would repeal the law as it stands, especially given recent statements by the Human Righs Commission and the clarification afforded by the Mason case.
Mason was found guilty of punching his child in the face, not for flicking his ear.
In addition, Adam finds it bemusing that Bob McCoskrie persists in citing very peculiar examples of good parenting; such as the father pushing his son to the ground because he had incorrect rugby gear.
Further, Adam finds it somewhat peculiar that so many who wish to repeal the law claim to be Christians. He does not recall Christ preaching about the need to smack children.
