Labour’s hypocrisy knows no bounds

July 29, 2009

Adam detects a strong stench of hypocrisy as regards the ‘outrage‘ from Labour, led in this instance by Charles Chauvel posturing as Associate Justice spokesperson; together with a number of the other usual suspects in regard to Paula Bennett’s release of information concerning 2 beneficiaries who are protesting the government’s axing of a benefit which these people believe they are entitled to.

We will leave aside for today this notion of entitlement and focus on the hypocrisy which is abundant and noxious as regards this matter.

On Morning Report today Sean Plunket interviewe Mr Chauvel who was in full flight regarding the sins of Ms Bennett. No truck Chauvel with waiting for any assessment as to whether M Bennett had breached the law. NO, as far as Chauvel was concerned Bennett had breached and in a major way the relevant law. Since when was Charles Chauvel appointed to sit and judge anyone. He was going to lay a complaint.

Plunket suggested to the indignant Chauvel who was waxing evermore full of Bennett’s breaches that if she had done as Labour usually did and arrange for a minion to brief a journalist with the relevant detail then this would not even be an issue. Not even a pinprick in the hide of Chauvel.

When the interview finished Plunket went on to interview a senior RNZ reporter, unfortunately the name escapes Adam for the moment. She confirmed past Labour and indeed National practice in this regard. Very kindly she reminded the audience that Lianne Dalziel had been an offender in this regard and been caught out.

So Labour, rather than be upfront, would happily smear people by stealth.

Colin Espiner in his blog yesterday wrote:-

Bennett’s office has been getting increasingly frustrated that the coverage the women have been getting in the media hasn’t included exactly what the pair already receive courtesy of the taxpayer.

Now, the usual way of dealing with this is to quietly slip the details out to a friendly journalist, or suggest someone ask a question that would reveal the information. Let’s be clear here that Labour did this all the time. It’s standard practice.

Let us revisit that quote again, the last line in particular:-

Let’s be clear here that Labour did this all the time. It’s standard practice.

So Labour’s normal approach was to be devious and backstabbing. Hmm

Ms Bennett was upfront and at least the victims of the attack knew precisely where the attack was coming from, rather than Labour’s preferred method of sly, malicious hole in the corner spin; of which we have seen quite a lot in recent week Adam would suggest.

So as Adam noted at the beginning there is a lot of hypocrisy about in connection with this matter. The stench being akin to that of horse manure. So next time you see or here a Labour MP foaming with indignation on this matter or Sue Bradford, for example, condemning Ms Bennett, please remember Labour’s standard method of proceeding in these matters – sly, devious and malevolent. Hypocrites, absolute hypocrites – feigning a phony moral outrage. It is a wonder they do not choke.

Perhaps someone from the MSM could get a comment from Madelaine Setchel or Erin Leigh on the propriety of disclosure of “relevant” info and remember this was not done under privilege but in the glaring light of the privacy law. Maybe a comment from the duck also
