The Saturday Rant – August 1, 2009

August 1, 2009

So here we are again at the end of the week. Does not seem like 7 days since Adam at down to write his Saturday Rant.

First Up This Week

National Radio

In the middle of last night when Adam was unable to sleep, he was listening at one point to Radio New Zealand National. The announcer was reading the news bulletin and we came to a report on The Ashes series. Adam nearly fell out of bed in disbelief when having a moment before referred to Ricky Ponting the newsreader then called him Pointing. A few seconds later this error was compounded by a report on a test being played in the West Indies in St Kitts, which was called St Kit by the announcer.

Surely these bulletins are checked for accuracy,or is it that nobody cares anymore.

Secondly

MPs expenses

Has anyone else noted how TVNZ seemed to focus on ACT expenses. In addition the other night they never mentioned the size of Phil Goff’s expenditure. Yet again Adam gets the impression of bias in TVNZ coverage of issues. No doubt we can look forward to more of the same nonsense on Q & A tomorrow.

Thirdly

Parking fines

Took the car into Wellington CBD on Tuesday, paid the fee for the parking meter. When Adam returned he found he had been ticketed despite the fact that when he left the car the ticket was appropriately displayed on the dashboard.

So now Adam is preparing to do battle with the parking people, but he cannot see why when he had a valid ticket he should be fined.

He wonders if one of the many smokers lounging outside CBD buildings leaned against his car, as he has seen them do before, thus dislodging the ticket or causing it to become obscured.

Fourthly

The Crown Limousine Service

Why are we paying $1.5 million for this service in the last 6 months? Does it not seem excessive. Given that we are exhorted to do more with less, could not the government set an example?

Fifthly

Benefit payments

How the devil can benefit payments be described as earnings. Yet several times recently Adam has seen benefit payments described as the recipients earnings. That sort of gross misuse of language makes him want to vomit.

This is where we have got to after 9 years of misgovernment by the Mistress of Misrule and her acolytes.

Conclusion

Well that is all for this week. Thanks for putting up with Adam’s outpourings and the rant will be back next week.

Adam thought this little gem from Emmerson makes a good point:-
