Former prime minister Helen Clark pressured her former ministerial colleague Margaret Shields not to accept the title “Dame”.

But the former MP for Kapiti did not buckle, and this afternoon she will be invested as a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

    Gob-smacked Adam! That’s our reaction; that and outraged. Who the hell does Helen Clark think she is, to make a political issue out of this; FFS – she’s not even a politician any more!

    As I said over at Keeping Stock – the photo you ran showing the two faces of Clark should now include a bleeding nose.

    Well done Dame Margaret – the first known Labour MP to publicly stand up to Clark.
