Adam’s Wallies of the Week

October 3, 2009

Now Wally of the Week presented a challenge. So Adam decided to award the title twice,

  • once to Pita Sharples for spending public funds on supporting a bid by Maori TV for Rugby World Cup TV rights. Adam has no problem with MTS bidding, but why should it be with taxpayer funds and presumably taxpayer funds could be used to fund the purchase of the rights. Enough public money is being wasted on this modern equivalent of the Roman Circus; and to
  • Trevor Mallard, a perennial favourite in this regard, who seems to think that slamming Sharples will win Labour kudos. It may sway a few rednecks, but is likely to further ensure that the Maori Party remain alienated from Labour. Also Trevor’s concern for public spending in this matter is recent given his previous desire to pour public money into a waterfront folly to stage rugby in Auckland. Mallard is an unconvincing saver of public money.
