Adam’s Wally of the Week
Fierce competition this week amongst the contenders for Wally of the Week.
There was early entrant Pete Hodgson who seems not to realise that with the release of the Auditor General’s report into Bill English’s housing allowance claims, most people see him as cleared and the blame as lying with Ministerial Services. There might be questions still, but they are ‘within the beltway’ to use a phrase from the ancien regime.
Then late entrant Phil Goff who was reported as arriving today,on his new silver Triumph Bonneville motorcycle at a rally in Manukau organised by motorcycle club Ulysses to protest the changes to ACC. Phil your minders need their heads examined.
Then Bill English pooped his head above the parapet again by provoking a storm of faux outrage, manly occasioned by jealousy, over the ads TVNZ ran featuring him. Again English showed dubious judgement. To be involved in one controversy over expenses is careless at best, but a second one contemporaneously, H’mmmm!
However, Bill was saved by the perkbuster Rodney Hide, who circumvented Prime Ministerial directives on spousal travel, claimed he was entitled (just like Roger Douglas) and took the nonsensical position that he disappoved of the whole thing, but it was his right to abuse the system as the rules permitted it. Hypocrite is the least of the adjectives that came to mind.
This week the wally is Rodney Hide.
