Adam’s Winner of the Week

October 31, 2009

Again this was a strong week, we have John Key riding high in the polls and increasingly well regarded. Some well performing ministers such as Simon Power and Steven Joyce. Yet on balance Adam has decided to award Winner of the Week to Chester Borrows and the Justice and Electoral Select Committee examining the Search and Surveillance Bill who have decided to take a longer period to reviw the bill. Hopefully that presages fuller consideration, rather than simply rubber stamping what has been put in front of them

A move by the Select Committee that hopefully indicates that some attention is being paid to concerns aired so far. When one looks at the disparate sources of concern about the bill, it is right that a longer period should be taken in consideration. As part of such consideration, perhaps regard should be had to removing some of these powers from many of the state agencies listed. Do we really need the Overseas Investment Commission or the Pork Industry Board to have such intrusive powers?

Excellent choice Adam. Chester is one of nature’s gentlemen – a delightful guy, a bloody good MP, and a shadow of his former self after the gastric bypass he self-funded.
