Adam’s Winner of the Week

November 13, 2009

A different approach this week. It has been rather dispiriting in many ways. The week has been dominated by the Harawira saga, perks and other matters.

Yet at the end of the day, one clear winner emerged. It was encapsulated by pictures of Lazarus on the TV news speaking to Grey Power audiences.

Harawira and people like him, whether brown or white fuel the fires of fear, envy and prejudice. They look to the past and not to the future.

Yet,many friends of Adam, both Maori and Pakeha look forward too the future where their united bloodlines create a world different to that seen by the bigots, racists and demented denizens who inhabit the world where Lazarus, Harawira and their ilk exist.

Consequently, Adam chooses to celebrate and award Winner of the Week to those in NZ who choose to look to the future and not to the past. To a future where skin colour and ethnicity are essentially irrelevant in the context of being a New Zealander.

Racial politics belongs with the past and not with the future.
