Ravel, born March 7 1875, was a French composer who died in 1937.

Ravel in 1912

He wrote various pieces including for the piano and an opera.

Perhaps best known to many for that most sensuous of pieces of music – Bolero

The video is of Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic, in 2 parts I am afraid, which perhaps rather spoils the spell

He was a fantastic composer. One of his parents was Spanish and this influenced his music, in particular, Bolero.

I always enjoy listening to his Pavane for a dead child.

Sad, sad music. But very beautiful at the same time.
