RWC songs – please not ‘Loyal’, never ‘Loyal’
March 31, 2010
The predictable backlash against the RWC organizing group’s decision to use an English song to promote ticket sales has led to many proposing that again we use the appalling Dobbyn dirge, Loyal, to promote the event.
Bomber Bradbury and Gary McCormick being front footers in their desire to promote this funereal dirge and symbol of past failed campaigns.
If we need other songs let them be cheerful, tuneful and ones people might like and express hope and success, rather than dark Kiwi dirges.

My own view is that “loyal” was partially responsible for the cock up that was the defence of the america’s Cup in ’03.
I’m pleased that it hasn’t been wheeled out for next years fun & games.
and the feelers are pretty good too!
Listening to McCormick on State Radio yesterday made me realise (yet again) he has a major chip on his shoulder. This was “colonialism at its worst, blah, blah, blah”.
The sooner these fools grow up and stop behaving like truculent teenagers who always want to rebel the better. If we were to behave as mature adults we can have a great interactive relationship with our parent countries/cultures.
The add campaign with the feelers singing right here right now looks pretty good to me. It’s the right sentiment to build ticket sales, but then again the socialists are against that as well. It’s wake up time – Rugby is a business, not some vaunted cultural edifice…
You’ve got my vote for cheery, tuneful and positive too Adam.
Agree 100% Adam. And I actually rather like Right Here, Right Now
