Obama opens protected areas to oil exploration

April 1, 2010

Barack Obama said:-

“The bottom line is this: given our energy needs, in order to sustain economic growth, produce jobs and keep our businesses competitive, we’re going to need to harness traditional sources of fuel.”

This when he announced a major opening up of previously protected coastal areas:-

opening up 167 million acres (67 million hectares) of coastal waters to oil drilling, in an attempt to limit America’s dependence on foreign energy and to win Republican backing for a stalled climate change Bill

He noted:-

“The bottom line is this: given our energy needs, in order to sustain economic growth, produce jobs and keep our businesses competitive, we’re going to need to harness traditional sources of fuel.”

Obama and the Yanks recognise that energy feeds into jobs and growth. Evil words for many in NZ, but rational.

Oh and for all those hsyterics who shrieked last week about NZ looking at some 7000 hectares of Schedule 4 land:-

130 million acres of Alaskan waters will be studied to see if the potential economic benefit of drilling outweighs the ecological risk.

Oh dear, he is having a stocktake done.

Sounds like people and jobs first. No doubt the green luddites will accuse Obama of cuddling up to his ‘rich business mates’. LOL, much US business despises the man.

Actually, if you look a little closer, you’ll see he’s talking big but has actually closed off more than he has opened up. Watch the actions, mate and heed not the words when dealing with leftist extremists.
