A pertinent quote – was Supermac right?

Harold Macmillan said many years ago:-

As usual the Liberals offer a mixture of sound and original ideas. Unfortunately none of the sound ideas is original and none of the original ideas is sound.

Interestingly that he made this speech 49 years ago to the day of the election in the UK last week. Source Oxford Dictionary of Modern Quotations – 1996.

We wait to see if he was uncannily prescient or just cynical or both.
