PEDA
Labour associate Pacific Islands spokesman Su’a William Sio may well be onto something with his dogged pursuit of Georgina Te Heuheu over a proposed contract with a small and apparently untested company, proposing to upskill Pacific Islanders .
Ms te Heuheu has been stonewalling at Question Time over the past couple of days.
Radio NZ, per NZ Herald, reports that the officials at the Pacific Islands Ministry advised against this deal. Apparently officials queried:-
the proposal for funding, which was uncontested, by Peda to the finance minister briefly outlined five projects and was scant on detail about how money would be spent.
Adam wonders though whether Labour’s target is Ms te Heuheu or Bill English. This began to emerge in some of Mr Sio’s questions yesterday.
Ms te Heuheu confirmed that PEDA’s principals had
had several discussions with Finance Minister Bill English about the funding
Based on her answers at question time, it is possible that she is the patsy for an arrangement promoted by Bill English.
Adam does wonder:-
- Why Bill English appears to be so closely involved
- Why the process appears to have been weak, especially as the principal of PEDA was apparently a former employee of the ministry – a situation criticised by National when similar situations occurred under the Clark/Cullen regime
- The disparity between the officials view of PEDA’s proposal and PEDA’s own statements
