Len Brown – economical with the truth?
“I will always front up. I will give you the straight answers, always with a limit.’
Len Brown quoted in Herald on Sunday in response to a question on why voters should trust him.
Now Adam takes Mr Brown’s answer to mean that he tells the truth, but only to a certain point. He is in effect saying he can be economical with the truth as it were. All politicans obfuscate, but then note this other quote:-
“Transparency is not a perfect thing,” he added.
“Transparency doesn’t just happen in a perfect world. You have to measure that up against other significant principles and that’s what I’m doing and I will live or die on that.’
So even when caught out, is he saying he will continue to obfuscate?
Why does he think he does not have to comply with the Manukau Council spending rules?
Why does the CEO and Council let Brown flout the rules?
Frankly, Brown’s attitude is extremely concerning as he seems to believe that truth is what he wants it to be at any particular time and that he is above the rules.
What is even more astonishing is his arrogance. He persists with his attitude on this matter, so much so that no longer is this about what at the end of the day were issues of non-compliant spending, but about Brown’s fitness to be Mayor as called into question by increasingly bizarre behaviour and statemenst which raise questions as to judgement, credibility and capability.
If he had just apologised, complied with the rules as to disclosure then this matter might well be blowing over. It is Brown who rakes over the embers and fans the flames.

So Len Brown is happy to tell the truth, as long as it’s his version of the truth. Hmmm, sounds like JUST what Auckland needs!
