PEDA #4 – The case for Open Government

July 2, 2010

Media 7 looked at aspects of the PEDA affair this week. (h/T Russell Brown). This gets murkier and murkier, but strangely as Russell comments gets little coverage in the MSM. Adam referred readers to this dark little secret here, then Peda #2 and then PEDA #3

Given that we have this week seen the Open Government 2010  meeting, it would be useful to report that openess had spread to the subject of PEDA, but as Adam noted yesterday Open maybe more a phrase than an activity of substance.

Yet in a week when we have seen a scathing report on the Tekau Plus fiasco which details an all too familiar state of abysmal management, and a strong negative DomPost editorial, one would think that the government rather than obfuscate should smarten up its’ act and put some rigour into this matter, Yet we still see far too much blather and bluster. A bit of Open Government to demonstrate that all is above board and that there are clear and valid reasons for PEDA to be appointed with strong and effective monitoring arrangements, coupled with a programme of work which will meet well defined and appropriate objectives would do much to dispel the unease felt by observers.

If of course the above cannot be demonstrated or is not demonstrated then questions will continue and so they should!
