ETS Watch #1
A few days ago, pre July 1, Adam purchsed some household items from the Lower Hutt Pak ‘N Save. At the time he did not fill up with petrol, probably a mistake, but was sure that he saw that the price for 91 octane was $1.729 per litre. The voucher he got with the bill for the purchases was for 6 cents a litre discount. So if he had purchased a tank then, it would have cost after discount $1.669 per litre.
Today, Adam had to buy petrol, imagine his surprise on finding that 91 octane was now $1.789 per litre, so much for the estimated 3 cents impact of the ETS.
Indeed, not having noticed any great spikes in oil prices recently, Adam wonders if we are seeing an ETS rip-off.
According to Cardlink Pricewatch BP in Lower Hutt has 91 Octane at $1.759 per litre, Caltex is at $1.789 maybe Pak ‘N Save buy from Caltex, but why?
OK so after discount the price is still cheaper than BP, but why the big rise?

Pak n Save along with all the foodstuffs chain, get their fuel from BP.
Caltex are just ripping into the public in the time honoured tradition of big oil.
So Pak ‘N Save are selling their fuel, if you do not have a voucher for 6 cents a litre at 3 cents a litre more than retail at BP.
Makes their advertising tagline rather inaccurate:-
“Everything we do, we do to save you money”
