Quotation for Today, Monday 19 July

July 19, 2010

From a comments thread at NZ Herald on the issue of 90 day probation and the curtailing of union access to the workplace:-

Access is not denied, only access whenever the union rep wants it is curbed. They now have to discuss with the company when they can meet with their members. Most already do this so nothing changes except for those that have a habit of just walking into a factory and stopping the production just because they can till now.

The 90 day bill is good and has helped a lot of people into jobs where they may not have had a chance without it for no other reason that under the old an employer would rather have had someone with references, this bill gives those people without an employment history a much better chance.

Why is change in the workplace always seen as bad? The systems we had in place were archaic and non productive the current initiatives can only lead to more jobs for the younger people.

No workers – no businesses? That will be right, they will both be in another country.
