Knives are out ‘in support’ of Goff!!
Vindictive comment, character assassination is all the rage this week as assorted ‘pundits‘, ‘commentators‘ and politicians ‘rally‘ behind Phil Goff ‘in support‘ of his leadership.
An example is this comment on Carter from Matt McCarten in today’s HoS:-
Carter was Clark’s favourite and it is widely believed his promotion was beyond his competencies and was due to his personal relationship with the former prime minister.
Clark’s need to surround herself with creatures like Carter, and rewarding them with high office, reflects a personal flaw.
McCarten attacks Clark in effect blaming her for Carter and the problems now besetting Goff.
The reason for all this ‘support’ for Goff. Well in the immortal words of Maggie Thatcher ‘ There is no alternative’.
Yet Goff needs to watch his back, for as soon as a potentially electable alternative emerges the knives now being plunged into Carter will be sharpened and plunged into him. There is no shortage of ambitious ‘loyalists’.
