Adam’s Mendacious Politican of the Week Award
This goes to Labour collectively for their proposal to make fresh fruit and vegetables GST free and their claim as put forward by amongst others, David Cunliffe, that the cost will be paid for by the recent increase in taxes on tobacco.
Well as John Armstrong notes in today’s NZ Herald, discussing why Labour has done this:-
A further, more expedient factor was Labour’s “Axe the Tax” campaign to stop the GST rise. Labour always knew it would not be able to unwind the increase – something Goff admitted when the new policy was officially unveiled last Monday. That admission got little coverage. The announcement of the fruit and vege exemption spared Labour’s blushes.
Where has been the MSM pointing out Labour’s lies in this regard. Note the words in blue, Labour lied with it’s Axe the Tax campaign.
Then as Armstrong also points out:-
Labour has distributed a flyer which seeks to deliberately trick people into thinking that National is responsible for the entire GST component of their bills.
Just as scurrilous is Labour’s bogus assurance that the $270 million cost (at least) of forgoing GST on fresh fruit and veges will be funded by the recent rise in excise duty on tobacco. That money is already accounted for in Government spending.
So Goff and his MPS are lying from the get go. They are spreading falsehoods and seeking to dupe people into voting for them on a false premise. Yet at the same time thay are running a campaign, led by Clare Curran on transparency and openess in Government. On the evidence of this, it would appear that Labour are yet again promising one thing and doing another. This from the party that loves to talk about trust.
So Adam’s Mendacious Politican of the Week Award is given to the richly deserving NZ Labour Party

Indeed Adam; who could even consider trusting Labour again when every policy the party conceives is based on lies and half-truths?
