It is every man’s inalienable right to eat bacon butties

A café in Stockport, one of whose owners is a Turkish Muslim, has been told to stop cooking bacon butties because the smell offends passing Islamics. We could all list things, and indeed people, who offend our senses – and not just of smell – but I doubt they would be proscribed. Why is tolerance a one-way street in this country?

Many of us find it unpleasant that some Muslim women feel compelled to shroud themselves in burkas and act as second-class citizens. We understand, though, that this is part of their culture, and they have a right to express it. The people of Stockport have bacon butties as part of their culture, and a right to eat them. The local council should be ashamed of itself, and should get lost.
