Car hire faro or car rental at faro airport magnifies your experience.
A gateway to the centre of the city is Arco da vila which dates from the 18th century.
Faro itself attracted human occupants since the Palaeolithic age until the end of pre-history.
The town of ossonoba grew during the period of the roman occupation, the forerunner of present day faro.
In the 9th century it was the capital of a short lived princedom and was fortifies with a ring of defensive walls.
The town was then known as Santa Maria and later as harune whence its current name faro.
