Water:a critical resource

invisible hit counter
Adam has raised concerns about water as a source of concern and potential conflict. He had not expected to come across an item on the potential for desertification in Southern Europe quite so soon.

This article from the New York Times on water issues, black market water trading and rapidly drying aquifers is about Southern Spain. It has lessons for us all, about trying to change a landscape and grow drops and develop resorts without taking into account the inherent nature of the location.

Read it and think about what is going on in your back yard.

For example in NZ are we placing too much demand on our aquifers with so many farms being converted to dairy?

Or development for housing in unsuitable areas?
