What is it with New Zealanders? Why cannot they take responsibility for looking after themselves? Why is everything the responsibility of the Government? Surely parents should educate children re eating correctly? The Government can provide information and advice, but legislation as to what we should eat ridiculous.

By the way schools are not absolved under the new rules from promoting healthy eating, contrary to the flood of mis-information on this matter.

Unless marked Quaker, Hubbard, Kelloggs, Tesco or Sainsbury they would not know.

You can as you say buy plain oats, add dried fruits or even better fresh and there you are.

But that actually requires you to do something, whereas her way the “Gummint’ does it for you

Maybe she’s spent so long being told what to do she doesn’t know you can make your own porridge and muesli with rolled oats and choose how much, or little, sugar you put in it.
