Strange Fruit

February 4, 2012

Given comments made about some in NZ being not unlike the KKK with their attitudes, Adam thought it might be timely to feature the immortal Billie Holiday’s classic blues Strange Fruit

My view is an extremist view in your mind. It is not in mine. It reflects, perhaps with a degree of hyperbole, my opinion of much of the rubbish in the media, the blogoshere, the talkabk area on this matter.

However, I note that instead of actually addressing points made, you have agin moved your comment to a different focal point.

You have deliberately, I suggest, misinterprted my comment:-

    You also say,
“Actually much of the negative comment is from the left re Crafar decision. Point me in the direction of a so called right wing negative in this matter and I will be as happy to attack them as
    well”

I stand by that remark. Yet you chose to construe this as meaning:-

By that I take it that you think the ‘KKK’ element sits to the left of the political divide. You haven’t noticed it from the Right, you indicate.

THat is not what I meant and I think you know that, but it suits you to argue otherwise. My point is that racsim of this nature is analogous and akin to the KKK. It iis neither left nor rright in this instance given the people making the comments, but is abhorrent and totally unacceptable.

Adam, you’ve redubbed New Zealand, “The Land of the Ku Klux Klan ‘Cloud’.
Are you sure you don’t want to reconsider that?
    It’s an extremist view.
    You also say,
“Actually much of the negative comment is from the left re Crafar decision. Point me in the direction of a so called right wing negative in this matter and I will be as happy to attack them as well”

This looks like an ideological attack from you, one that uses extreme comparisons (lefties are Ku Klux Klansmen!!!)and reflects badly, in my opinion.

The problem is that some of your countrymen actually think like that, the fact you do not wish to recognise that fact is your problem.

Having lived in a number of places where there were/are strong racial issues and worked in others, I did not use the term lightly.

    It’s disturbing, isn’t it.
I’d not accuse my countrymen of being like those ‘hangers of strange fruit’.
    Ever.
