Since the release of Win XP in 2001, Microsoft has lived under the iniquity of anti-trust laws enthusiastically enforced by US & EU governments. Anti-trust actions were instigated by competitors who were failing miserably to be competitive, so they turned to the regulators whom they knew they could influence. When the anti-trust suits started, Microsoft stopped innovating and lawyers took over the company turning it into the tame (lame?) bureaucracy it is today.
