Another university oppresses free speech

March 3, 2017

Yet another university, you know one of those bastions of learning and diversity, seeks to oppress free speech. This time the institution of learning seeks to emulate Orwell’s 1984 by issuing a diktat as to what words may or may not be used.

This crap is justified under the guise of promoting diversity.

Rubbish, this is straight out oppression and an attack on free speech.

The university should have it;s charter suspended and /or the council removed.

Examples, from The Telegraph:-

Cardiff Metropolitan University’s guidance dictates that “gender-neutral” terms should be used where possible, adding that students should not allow their “cultural background” to affect their choice of words.

It advises that the terms “forefathers”, “mankind” and “sportsmanship” should be avoided, as part of efforts to “embrace cultural diversity” through language.

Gender-neutral terms checklist | From Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Code of Practice on using Inclusive Language

Forefathers – Ancestors, forebears

Gentleman’s agreement – Unwritten agreement, agreement based on trust

Girls (for adults) – women

Housewife – Shopper, consumer, homemaker (depends on context)

Manpower – Human resources, labour force, staff, personnel, workers, workforce

Man or mankind – Humanity, humankind, human race, people

Man-made – Artificial, manufactured, synthetic

Man in the street, common man – Average/ordinary/typical citizen/person

Right-hand man – Chief assistant

Sportsmanship – Fairmess, good humour, sense of fair play

What a load of snowflake led bigotry and absolute codswallop. The so called academic community at this apology for a university should be ashamed of themselves for this assault on freedom of expression.
