NZ Citizenship – a question for Turei?

July 26, 2017

It is interesting to note that persons intending to become NZ citizens have to make the following oath when becoming a citizen:-

“I, [full name], swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her (or His) Majesty [specify the name of the reigning Sovereign, as thus: Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of New Zealand,] Her (or His) heirs and successors, according to law, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of New Zealand and fulfil my duties as a New Zealand citizen.

So if choosing to become a citizen you must take an oath to:-

faithfully observe the laws of New Zealand and fulfil my duties as a New Zealand citizen

One would assume that NZ citizens born here had a similar obligation, else why require new citizens to make such a pledge.

Therefore it seems to this observer that Ms Turei is not fulfiling a primary obligation of citizenship in New Zealand. If she is not, how can she justify being an MP and aspirant for higher office?
