Media Worm turns on Green Slug

July 27, 2017

You know that something is wrong with your political strategy when the media worms turn upon you. In fact you should wonder whether your strategy is flawed, perhaps fatally.

Patrick Gower of Newshub, who usually foams with glee when trying to plant a hit on National is clearly incensed at the behaviour of Turei, the fraudster leading the Greens.

Gower seems to have realised thst Turei’s posturing is not playing well with many.

In particular it is likely that many Kiwis who have had to live on the benefit and did not systematically steal from their fellow citizens for years are very pissed off with Turei and her posing.

OPINION: Metiria Turei’s biggest ripoff is that she is trying to exploit the New Zealand public for political gain.

Yes, she also systematically ripped off the taxpayer by committing benefit fraud.

But make no mistake: the main motivation of her admission was to try and get votes.

It is all about getting attention for her and the Greens.

It is all a tactic – the party wants to turn her into Aotearoa’s Bernie Sanders or Jeremy Corbyn.

Let us remember that Sanders wife is now being investigated by the FBI, Corbyn has been caught out being extremely economical with the truth regarding student loans and the left’s darling state of venezuela is a corrupt, facist basket case.

For once Gower focuses his intelligence properly:-.

It is an attempt to use her benefit fraud to manipulate the media and the public eight weeks before an election.

And the ‘money quote’

It is all about Metiria.

Like everything with Turei it is always about her.

Then note this, more the words of a courtier spurned than a commentator:-

In my opinion, she is ripping off the New Zealand public by dropping, drip-feeding and dragging out this saga. It is a political fraud.

Everything else is secondary. Yes, she genuinely wants to help New Zealand’s poor – but her priority has been to rip off the public and get votes.

Then Gower turns his ire on the Green Party, ususally held up as paragons of virtue by NZ MSM:-

Metiria Turei and the Greens are playing a game with the New Zealand public.

And for that she has to be held accountable – she has to tell the taxpayer the truth about what happened all that time ago.

Then Gower actually asks some highly relevant questions,(Adam’s bullet points for emphasis, but Gower’s words):-

  • Why doesn’t she start doing that now?
  • She’s made enough gain politically from it, but now it’s time to front up.
  • The Greens have a taxpayer funded research unit – why doesn’t Turei put them on the case of finding out roughly how much she owes.
  • If it was really all about coming clean and doing something for poverty she would have paid the money back by now – so someone needy can use it.

It remains to be seen whether Gower is right, or whether some vocal defenders of Turei will emerge to swing the pendulum in the opposie, i.e. left direction.

Just a quick point, whilst not defending Turei, this is not the first time I’ve seen the argument ending “so someone else can use it”. Welfare is not a zero sum game. If someone else was “entitled” to any part Turei’s overpayment they would have received it regardless. The only injured party is the taxpayer.
    Keep up the good work!

      Thank you.

I agree with your point, but then Gower is not always on point in his understanding.
