Police Recruits accused of misconduct

10/10/2018

Just what is going on in NZ Police, two reports on Morning Report about significant allegations against police recruits:-

first,  Stuart Nash with Guyon Espiner

Four recruits at the Police College in Porirua have been stood down for misconduct including the intake’s star pupil. The general manager of training, Scott Fraser, says the recruits were not on duty at the time and three of the incidents happened off campus. Police won’t confirm reports that at least one case involves accusations of indecent assault. Police Minister Stuart Nash discusses the issue with Guyon Espiner

Some of the explanations do not wash. Nash starts by justifying poor standards because of societal issues. Nash comes off very poorly in this item. He fails.

Then we have this:-

Four recruits at the Police College in Porirua have been stood down for misconduct. Police say the recruits were not on duty at the time and three of the incidents happened off campus. Superintendent Scott Fraser is the Police’s General Manager of Training. He tells Guyon Espiner there are two criminal investigations currently underway.

Hmm, again we see some obfuscation and Fraser seeks to set it against total intake over 12 months, rather than one intake. Stonewall, and a lot of blah. Very, very unsatisfactory.

Hopefully, media will look further at this.
